Checkout and discounts
What buyers see and fill in, and the discount tools you have.
The checkout
When a buyer chooses a variant and quantity, they are sent to Stripe Checkout to pay. SellSpace needs the buyer's e-mail address to identify the order and to open it later in My account. Order e-mails to buyers are sent on Premium and Pro. On Free, customers get their purchase on the order page and in My account. The price is always calculated on the server from your variant settings, never from the browser.
Card payments through Stripe have Stripe's own minimum charge per currency (for euro payments EUR 0.50). Other methods (customer balance, PayPal, crypto) have no minimum from SellSpace. When an order is below the Stripe minimum, the card option is greyed out with a short note and the buyer picks another method. If a customer balance leaves less than the Stripe minimum to pay by card, SellSpace uses a little less balance so that the card part is exactly the minimum.
The payment methods a buyer sees on the Stripe page are the ones you switched on in your own Stripe account (Stripe Dashboard, Settings, Payments, Payment methods), for example cards, iDEAL, Bancontact or Apple Pay. Next to them buyers see the SellSpace methods you enabled. Delayed methods such as bank debits are delivered only after Stripe confirms the money; until then the order is not created and any balance used stays reserved.
Custom fields
Ask buyers for extra information, for example a username or server ID. Each product can have up to 20 fields. Field types:
| Type | Use |
|---|---|
| Text | A single line. |
| Textarea | Several lines. |
| An e-mail address. | |
| Number | Numbers only. |
| Select | Choose from options you list (up to 30). |
| Checkbox | A yes/no answer. |
Each field has a label and can be marked as required. With "ask after payment" enabled, buyers fill in the fields after paying instead of before. Answers appear on the order in your dashboard.
Quantity limits
Set a minimum and maximum quantity per variant. With managed stock, the buyer can never buy more than what is in stock.
Discounts
SellSpace currently offers two discount tools, both set per variant:
- Slashed price: show an original price crossed out next to the real price.
- Volume discounts: tiers such as "from 5 items, 10% off". The highest tier that fits the quantity applies, as a percentage off the unit price.
There are no coupon codes at the moment. If you show a slashed price, make sure it is a real previous price. Rules on price reductions in the EU are described in the Terms of Service.
Currencies
Every shop charges in one currency, chosen in Configure (Store Currency): EUR, USD, GBP, CAD, AUD, NZD, CHF, SEK, NOK, DKK, PLN, CZK, HUF, RON, BGN, TRY, BRL, MXN, INR, JPY, SGD, HKD, AED or ZAR. Storefront, checkout, success page, e-mails and invoices all show that currency, and the buyer is charged in it. Currencies without decimals (JPY, HUF) use whole units.
- Changing the currency does not convert your prices. A product of 10 stays 10 (a EUR 10 product becomes USD 10). Review your prices after changing. Shops with products or orders must confirm the change; only the shop owner can make it.
- Orders keep the currency they were paid in, forever. A refund is made in that same currency.
- Stripe sets a minimum charge per currency (for example EUR 0.50, GBP 0.30, JPY 50, CZK 15). This applies to card payments through Stripe only; the card option is disabled below it and the buyer can choose another method.
- Stripe may convert the money for the SellSpace platform and for your payout when it differs from the currency of the accounts involved, using its own rates and fees. SellSpace does not control this.
- In the dashboard overview you can pick another display currency. Those amounts are converted with the daily ECB reference rates and marked approx.: they are an estimate for your overview, not what Stripe paid out. Platform subscriptions and templates are always priced in EUR.
Consumer information
Sellers selling to consumers in the EU must give the information required by consumer law, including the right of withdrawal rules for digital content. See the Terms of Service and the Refund Policy.
Because everything on SellSpace is digital content delivered right after payment, the checkout shows a required checkbox: the buyer agrees that delivery starts immediately and acknowledges losing the right of withdrawal. The exact text, its version, the time and the buyer's e-mail address are stored as proof, repeated in the delivery e-mail and shown on the order page.
Your own legal pages and cookie banner
Open Dashboard > Legal & Privacy to write the terms, privacy, refund, shipping and cookie policies, a legal notice and the right of withdrawal for your shop. Each page has a rich-text editor, an Insert template button and its own search title and description. Templates are a starting point, not legal advice: read them and replace the parts in [square brackets]. Published pages appear in the footer of every theme (/legal/<page> on your shop address) and the checkout links to them next to the consent boxes. Without a published page the checkout keeps its current links.
The Cookie Banner tab switches on a consent banner: automatic by region (opt-in in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland, opt-out elsewhere, Global Privacy Control respected), opt-in or opt-out everywhere, in four positions. Until the visitor chooses where consent is required, the visit statistics and embedded videos stay off. Ask every visitor again discards stored choices after you change your cookie policy.
